Welcome everyone!!

It is time to talk about fabrics.

In today's blog we have an interesting topic. Some people already know plenty about this new type of fabrics we just added to our store. Many of people that is new to the business must read this blog and hopefully we answer all the question you may have.

Time to talk about Neoprene Scuba Fabrics or for many others 'Super Techno'

Let's get started.
These are some of the questions. We talk bout in this Blog.
What is a Neoprene Scuba Fabric?
Some of the main differences between Scuba and Neoprene?
What is Neoprene used for?
Is this fabric water proof?
Can I use my sewing machine?
And some disadvantages because nothing is perfect.

Get ready. Set and here we go.

First, since the term Scuba is mentioned. Let's get a definition for Scuba so we can understand the differences and why both use Scuba in their name.

What is a Scuba Techno Fabric?

Well, Scuba fabrics are known as a “Techno” fabric that has a unique thickness and can be used to create structured garments. It has a smooth hand, a full-bodied drape, and fantastic stretch. Scuba is used mainly for creating structured knit apparel, dresses, skirts, pants, and heavier tops.

So then

What is a Neoprene Scuba Fabric?

Neoprene is a synthetic rubber that's often used to make wetsuits and its alternative name is scuba knit. Neoprene has become increasingly popular as a material to wear and use on land and the sea because of its many qualities like stain resistance and durability.

Wait a minute. That is a bit confusing.

Is scuba fabric the same as neoprene?

The answers is no. They are different although they share the name.
The term scuba is often used interchangeably with the term neoprene. Neoprene is a similar feeling fabric, but with one major difference: the word neoprene refers to a thin piece of foam. This foam is then sandwiched between two thin layers of knit to create neoprene fabric. Our Neoprene Fabrics are 2mm thick.

Just to clarify

What is the difference between Neoprene and scuba fabric?

Neoprene is thick and weighty, with low stretch and stiff body and drape, and it is often double-faced. Fashion scuba, on the other hand, is lighter and more stretchy. It offers none of the neoprene's performance characteristics, but it is more widely available in garment weights and pretty designs

Now, that we know the differences.

Let's talk about

What is neoprene scuba fabric for?

  • Neoprene Uses:
  • Wetsuits/scuba gear.
  • Swimsuits.
  • Electronics cases.
  • Sportswear/sports bras.
  • Lunch bags.
  • Koozies.
  • Mouse Pads.
  • Gloves and many, many more garments.

One of the most common questions our team always receives. What fabric is waterproof or resistant.

Is scuba neoprene fabric waterproof?

Neoprene is a brand name of polychloroprene, which is used as a substitute for rubber. Among other things, Neoprene is entirely waterproof, which makes it an ideal material for wetsuits and other gear designed to insulate against wet and cold environments.

Now, how can I work with this fabric?

Can I sew neoprene with a sewing machine?

Most home sewing machines can handle neoprene between two to three millimeters. Once you get to 4 millimeters or higher in thickness you might need to use a heavy-duty sewing machine.

Finally, it has some disadvantages. Here we go

What are the disadvantages of neoprene?
Neoprene offers poor resistance to strong oxidizing acids, esters, ketone and certain hydrocarbons. This is the most important disadvantage. Of course, there are other foamy materials that can offer better resistance and durability.
